How to add more exercise and activity to your day

After the long winter we had here in the Midwest, I found that my exercise and activity levels were really low. I would look at my activity tracker at the end of the day and it says 1500 steps. For me, I found that very discouraging especially when I look at my the scale and I see that my weight is just going up. I knew I needed to add more exercise and activity to my day.

Since I work at a desk all day and I do have an activity tracker I decided that I was going to make an effort to move every hour.

Since I was sitting all day I was gaining weight and I was just sitting there and eating random food mindlessly. So I knew something had to change.

I knew that exercise was something that my body needed. I knew without exercise I would continue to gain weight.

Add more Exercise and Activity


Get up and move every hour for five minutes.

By moving every hour for five minutes allowed my body to stretch and move and to just think about other things than staring at my computer.

Walk for 30 minutes

I decided walking for 30 minutes was crucial for my day I had to go outside and walk for 30 minutes. By going outside I was also allowing my brain to have a break from life and I was able to engage with the environment I didn’t put headphones on and I just walked. I found that walking helped me to relieve the stress from my day. I found that walking also allowed me to get new ideas for my blood.

One of my favorite things for walking is this Flipbelt that holds my cell phone. It is so handy and I even use it when I take my kids to the amusement park and I don’t want to have a bag with me.

Be outside with the kids

I also decided to just be outside with the boys. By being outside when they were outside I was forcing myself to engage in their life. We would play basketball and sometimes I would jump on the trampoline. Both of these helped to add more exercise and activity to my day.

Add more steps

In addition to all the above, I decided I was going to challenge myself to try and get 10,000 steps a day. By adding the extra steps to my day by getting up every hour I was increasing my ability to reach my goal.

I have found that someday’s I am walking laps around my house trying to reach my goal, but I know that goal also helps me to feel so much better.

If you don’t have an activity tracker, I highly recommend one. I started with a Fitbit and I would buy one again. I currently have an Apple Watch and I love it. This is the Fitbit I had that I would recommend to anyone.

Results

Since implementing the Strat the strategy into my life I have more energy. I have more happiness. And I have weight loss.

My clothes fit better. Because I am moving more, my clothes fit better. I am sure it has to do with the weight loss, but I think it also has to do with just moving more. I think my muscles are getting stronger and leaner.
