Are you shifting to be a work from home mom but struggling to find work-life balance in the household chores? Let me tell you, you are not alone! There are so many women out there who are frustrated because they don’t know how to off-load the work that is hindering them from excelling in their job.
These easy tips for work-life balance will hopefully give you some takeaways to implement in your own home.
I have been home with my children for 11 years. I have done everything for the house. Grocery shop, cleaning, laundry, car maintenance, I think you get the idea. Now that I am earning a steady income, I have learned I can’t do everything.
There isn’t a day that I haven’t been available for my family. I have worked many jobs in the last 11 years. Most of them just to build a business so I could stay home with my children.
Ready to build an online empire as a Pinterest Virtual Assistant? Thrive as a Pinterest Manager? It’s time to work less and make more. Let me show you how to live your best life!
As they got older, I got wiser and I started my Virtual Assistant business. (By the way, if you need a Pinterest manager, check the hire me tab!) The one thing these all have in common is that they all allowed me to work when my kids were sleeping, or at school or whatever.
BUT in addition to having a job, I never had help with the cleaning, cooking shopping, etc. Now that my kids are older and I am taking my workload up a notch, I am noticing that I can’t get it all done. I am not physically capable of getting everything done. Therefore these tips for work-life balance came into play.
Is Work-Life Balance Important?
This is a question you will need to ask yourself. If you are feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from the people in your home and just don’t feel happy… then you may want to take a look and adjust what isn’t working. Change takes time so please don’t expect it to happen over night.
Tips for Work-life Balance Brainstorm
First, I enlisted my husband to help me figure out how we can get things done around the house. He asked me what was 1 thing I could give up that I didn’t like having control over. I gave him 2, grocery shopping and cleaning the house.
For cleaning the house, he asked if that was something we could offload to the kids. I thought for a while and said we could definitely have the kids clean the house.
How we did this was I had created chore sticks a few years ago. We decided now was a good time to implement them back into our lives. If you haven’t heard of chore sticks, you can check these out on Amazon.

Why didn’t we hire a cleaning service?
Since we moved, our house is much smaller. It’s only 1800 square feet. If I wanted to I could clean the whole place in 2 hours. So I think it’s a waste of money to have someone come in and clean for us right now. On top of that, I really want my kids to learn how to clean.
Don’t get me wrong, once we have saved a little we’ll be getting a cleaning service! It’s just not a now thing!

Grocery’s
As for grocery shopping, this was more of a challenge. Picking produce can be a bit of a challenge so I don’t really like to offload that. But I tried to offload it to my husband and he didn’t feel comfortable doing that. He challenged me to start trying the grocery store shopping services.
I had been watching my friends online try them with their reviews. I figured it couldn’t hurt. I have used Instacart and Walmart and I think I love Instacart the best. You can use my affiliate link and try them. You’ll get $20 credit for trying them!

Friends, let me just tell you. I love ordering my groceries and it gets delivered right to my house. My menu plan is right next to me while I am ordering so I don’t get more than I need or forget an item. And I love driving up to the store and all I have to do is sit there and they come out and put the groceries in my car. It’s GENIUS!
I haven’t given in to them delivering it straight to my house yet. That is a service I’m not ready to pay for, but I think it would be amazing!
The key to this is that you have to have a menu plan. Without a menu plan, you will be wasting money. I also like how they keep the list from the previous week. So I can go through and repeat anything I may want to reorder.
You will need to check your local grocery stores and see who offers this service. This is my favorite tips for work-life balance! It is a total time saver!
Now that groceries and cleaning are taken care of I have more time to focus on growing my business.
Laundry
The final thing that I had to figure out was how to get a better handle on laundry. I have a tendency to let laundry build up and then I have 6 loads to do in 1 day. Since my boys are basically the same height right now, I have a hard time remembering who wears what.
So, I have started doing their laundry separately. I do one kid on Monday, then Tuesday I do the others. On Thursday towels. Friday’s is when my husband and my clothes. Since he travels, Friday is the best day for me to wash our clothes.
This sounds great in theory and I have only been doing it for 2 weeks. But it is working. Then on the weekends, I get to enjoy my family. Which is what being the boss is all about. Controlling your time so it doesn’t control you.
